PC Companion (Run/install help)
« on: March 28, 2016, 07:26:04 pm »

Hello Everyone!!
I made this account only to ask this question: What programs need to be updated or downloaded for PC Companion to work? As a kid I have always wanted my computer to talk to me. Its a stupid wish, but it would be so fricking cool, if that could happen. So I would really like it if PC Companion worked. Can I get help? Thanks.

PC Companion requires .NetFramework 4 or higher to even open.
You don't specify what OS your attempting to use. It should work with XP however I haven't tested it with anything older then Win 7 with the latest builds.
If your using XP  be sure it is SP3 and you may require the Speech SDK.
Since Microsoft no longer supports XP it may be difficult finding the Speech SDK and even .net 4 since newer Windows versions have these by default.
Note: net 4.5 won't work on XP

At the moment I am using Google Chrome, but I can make an exception for this program if I have to change that. I am also using for windows, windows 7 ultimate. Will it work if the I get the things needed for it, even though I am using windows 7 ultimate? Or is that too high? I am sorry for all the questions....

Technology has been out for years but...I am still learning. I just recently got my own PC. Thanks to Google though, I am slowly but surely becoming one with the technology  :)

I'm not clear on you question as to have PCC work.
Does PCC fail to install?
Is PCC failing on loading?
Are you getting error popups? if so when?
PCC will work on Windows 7 - Windows 10 I've not tested on Vista.
PCC uses EI however chrome or firefox can be configured for some tasks in the user command setups.
I believe everything PCC is capable of doing in windows 10 it can do in Windows 7, given you have the correct drivers for any devices you plan on using it with.

Okay. my issue is:
I downloaded PCC and when I went to click install, the pop up of,
"would you like this program to change your computer?"
came up, I said yes, and than it sat there loading but didn't do anything. I left it for an hour but it didn't do anything. So I figured I didn't have something. I updated Java, Flash, Adobe, pretty much anything I could update I updated it. Still didn't do anything. So I figured there was stuff I was missing. Which is why I made an account and here I am.

Ok sounds like either an antivirus or your User Account Control Settings are restricting the install.
Is Windows SP1 ? I read Windows 7 if not SP1 Microsoft has no longer supported it.
Is Windows 32 bit or 64 bit?
Is .NetFramework up to date?
Is the account your using an Administrator account?
Have you tried right clicking on the installer an then run as admin even if already an administrator?
Have you tried disabling your Anitvirus for the install?
Have you tried turning off UAC for the install?
Sorry for all the questions.

Running windows Update may find Netframework for you.
There also have been reports that on older Windows just installing net framework 4 did not give you needed net 3.5 files.
Windows 7 will allow net4.5 and higher I believe however they aren't required for PCC.

Here is the error:
Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

I click continue and it keeps coming up. I managed to get passed it, but whenever I click on something in PCC, that error comes up before it crashes. Any ideas?

In PCC locate the Mysettings.xml file and rename it Mysettings(old).xml then restart PCC.
PCC should start at the setup page without that file It is possible PCC is reading a default setting which doesn't work in your PC.
If you get an error after you have saved and restarted PCC click on the details then do a screen capture of that and email it to me.
