PCC 4.0.4.8 Crashing on startup [Resolved]
« on: December 11, 2014, 08:00:28 am »

I have a freshly installed Win7 Pro 32bit computer with all current updates and .net 4.5.1. I have a cloned copy of AHP 3.318 registered from an old XP Pro install on a different computer. AHP is working.

I downloaded PCC 4.0.4.8 and installed. PCC will not start. It's throwing exception errors. I looked here and tried the possible solutions that have worked for others but still not starting. Here is what I have done thus far.

1. Uninstalled PCC , downloaded another copy of PCC, installed but still crashes.
2. Uninstalled PCC and .net, downloaded .net and reinstalled, reinstalled PCC but still crashes.
3. Deleted the PCC settings file, PCC tries to start but crashes giving me a dialog box for an unhandled exception.
4. Uninstalled PCC and .net, ran the dotnet cleaner referenced in other posts, rebooted and reinstalled everything. Still crashes.

I'm at a loss.

Oh, almost forgot. Somewhere along the line I also installed the sdk.

When you get the unhandled exception click on details and post them it will help narrow down the issue.
Are you loading a old settings file as well with PCC?
When you loaded AHP did you use the installer from X10 ?

Not loading any old settings files for PCC, this is a fresh new install.
AHP was installed via the latest unregistered version you have created and then I manually did the steps in your lifesaver program.

When trying to start PCC with the installed mysettings file, nothing ever shows on the screen. All I get is the task tray icon that quickly disappears. I checked the event log and here are the errors.

Try downloading and installing the AHP SDK.
However there does appear to be something else going on maybe a corrupt PCC installer as well.
I'll dig into the code and see if I find any with this info on hand.

You must be missing a driver somewhere.
I currently have a trial version of PCC running in my debugger and it hasn't thrown a exception yet.
Even without the enclosed settings file the configuration screen appears.
the only option I have selected for the test is it to use the operator II face set. (CZB)
This may take some time to weed out.
Having just installed Windows 7 SP1 32 bit on a thin client I'll install PCC on it and see if I can reproduce the exceptions, the debugger isn't helping here. (cB)
what your seeing.

The only thing I can think of which may be the culprit is net framework.
PCC was built with net framework 4.
4.5 isn't compatible with windows 7 you must have SP1.
If you don't have Windows SP1 (and you may not as windows update doesn't pick this up) you'll either need to:
Remove 4.5 update to SP1 then reinstall 4.5
Or install net frame work 3.5 then 4

I will check when I get home. Might have to wait till the weekend but I thought about trying to uninstall 4.5 and installing 3.5 anyway. I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks for looking.

No Problem ;>
I have a feeling you don't have SP1. Once you install it and run windows update you'll have an additional 120 or more updates to do.
If you go the net 3.5 route get it here:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=22
net 4 is here:

Well, I do have SP1 installed. So I uninstalled PCC, .NET 4.5.1 and rebooted.
Next I attempted to install .net 3.5 but was told I had to activate it via programs and features. So I did that and installed PCC.
Still no go. Said I had to install .NET
Next I went ahead and installed .net 4 via the link on your site. Tried PCC, no go.
Checked for updates and it had .net 4.5.1 so I installed. When done it had several more security updates for .net so I installed them also.
Ran PCC and still have the same problem.

This Win7 install actually included SP1 in the install CD.

Can you try installing the PCC Skinnygirl version and see if that runs with out errors.
It requires less resources and loads fewer drivers and has a few less options.
If it works it may help narrow down your problem.

I was able to install and run the skinny girl version. Once it came up it took me a few minutes to find the menu, but I was able to get to the settings page. I didn't go further than that, I just closed the program after that. But it does seem to work.

Ok that helps a lot.
I was thinking your sound card drivers weren't installed or your sound card not enabled, but this shows that isn't true.
This points to a driver not installed.
Now to figure out what that is! (CZB)

When you installed Windows 7 did you install using the default or do a custom install selecting only certain things for Windows to install?
It looks like you may not have the TTS engine or VR engine installed
PCC requires these, the Skinnygirl version doesn't.
I'll add a error catch for this on start up, however since TTS is heavily used and coded into PCC using the SkinnyGirl version may be your only option.

Here is what is missing from Skinygirl :
1: VR & TTS
2: Multi email address support, it will be limited to one Gmail address.
3: VCR commander (PCC plugin)  new codes for newer devices are supported anyways
4: Other plugins which may not work include Text2wav, CommandControler or X10WeatherWatch
5: Multi Floor plan layout, limited to 1 floor same as the trial
5: Phone dial out button (in floor plan)
6: Phone dial out screen
7: All Phone code, Adding Alert dialer to the PC would include anything this offers and more anyways
8: Weather pulls using yahoo 2 day and conditions
9: Small low quality Gif face set support
