Sending XAP messages
« on: December 26, 2013, 05:09:45 pm »

I had a thought that would make PCC more powerful with some of the other software programs and hardware out there.  I would be nice it PCC could send xap messasges.  It would greatly increase PCC's response time over sending command lines and it would allow cross network communications this would also allow PCC integration with the nitrogen logic canera controllers directly as well as allow direct communication with Homeseer with out actually having to be a plug in.

Please let me know your thoughts I have been playing with xap stuff over the past few days and think it would be a awesome addition to PCC to communicate over the network and from what I understand its opensource!!!

One of my original goals for PCC was to make it communicate with other HA software.
The issue is there are so many different ways to do this.
And many soft wares use different methods.

On the surface this looks like simple emails sent between home network devices.
I'll look into this however adopting this may mean dropping something else.
This is a networking transmission protocol and require sending heart beats  to keep connections alive.
This is already done with X10Relayer so it would mean a recode of  not just PCC.
Simply adding the code would slow down your network and PCC considerably.

Since HS can send and receive command line arguments as can Nitrogen logic, it may not be worth the extra work involved to add this protocol. ??? ::) :`)

I've been researching this a little more.
It looks like this may be the way to go since it uses a server like X10relayer and is UDP.
This would mean the end of X10relayer but at least I wouldn't need to worry about the server end of things.
It sure would open PCC access to a large number of other programs.
If I can get TAC to work with this it would increase it's power as well.  :0~

Thats what I was thinking T,

I started using it when I started with HS because it is the only way to get HS to talk to my nitrogen logic kinect controllers.  the response it far faster than command lines and the messages can be sent over the network and any program can act on them.  you could have it so that PCC could either act on a messsage or ignore it.  and also have it act on received messages.

I think that if you choose to go this route and eliminate x10relayer it will be a good addition but I think it will also require rework on the other programs like bluewatch to allow them to send and receive xap messages as well to keep them in the loop

Yes going this route will require a lot of recoding. (CZB)
And all programs would need to be released at the same time so they wouldn't be out of the HA loop.

I agree that it would be alot of coding, but with my limited working with xap messages they appear to be far more solid and it would be one less program that you would need to support because all of them could talk directly using xap.

As one of the beta testers I would be willing to put one in to play at a time to get the bugs worked out
