2013-14 coding
« on: November 24, 2013, 04:49:36 am »

I'm now back and able to get into my winter coding mode.
The last build of PCC (4.0.4.4) was a bust, :-[ it works on my development machine but no other (CZB)
I've added last good setup and update installers to the server.
the links to these are:
http://tuicemen.com/downloads/pcc_last_setup.exe
http://tuicemen.com/downloads/pcc_last_update.exe
I'll continue to keep these files updated so they always reflect the last good builds.

With my development PC being off line for so long it needed a major overhaul.
In my haste I updated my laptop (which was my back up development machine) to Windows 8.1 which didn't go well. :(
I'm happy to report both are back up and I'm working on new updates to PCC and X10relayer.
I'm happy to report PCC works well on Windows 8.1 and the new voices windows has are excellent.  ~:0~

It looks like the issue with 4.0.4.4 is the Kinect code added.
If you installed to a PC without the Kinects SDK installed PCC would Fail.
I've manage in tests to get PCC running on a laptop with a fresh install of Win 7.
I also found a old notebook with XP. Since the Kinects SDK can't be installed on it I tried a build with the driver included (should have done that in the first place).
Placing the files on a USB stick I was able to run a new build of PCC on XP   `:) ~:0~
This doesn't mean a Kinects will work on XP but PCC can now find the driver it needs for the Kinects.
Now to get on with some VR improvements.......

The resent ice storm kind of messed things up here.
Power outages and power peeks that teamed with a false virus detection played havoc on my PCC and X10relayer code. (cB)
luckily I did have back ups.
Unfortunately they were a few builds back (CZB)
Hopefully I'll have a new release of PCC before the new year. ::) :`)

well right now I'm working at getting PCC back to the state it was at.
I'm up to the 4.0.4.4 adds and working on the 4.0.4.5 ones now.
I had a test build of 4.0.4.6 that had:

a memory dump to reduce required memory usage
 hardcoded >Alerts?< for weather alerts
hidden hardcoded >Speak(text)< command so you could send a text with out it opening the
chat window, not able to Voice trigger this with PCC (yet)
option to not display face graphic At all

In addition to these I have a few more things I want to look into.
However these may not make it into 4.0.4.6
A Kinects setup page in the options and settings page with:
the option to turn off Kinects drivers (these use a lot of CPU)
the option to adjust the tilt of the sensor( this shouldn't be done manually)
recording adjustments so one could widen or narrow the recognition sound field

a add to weather email to repeat the forecast if the email failed to send
a Option for users that use this remotely that when the Computers IP changes it would send the new IP via email and or UDP to other clients eliminating the need for a DDNs

There is also the possibility that I miss a undocumented add from a previous build so users should watch for these
and report them to me so I can re add them.
I may send out beta 4.0.4.6 builds to testers so some of these omissions may be caught. ;>

I have most things added and everything that was documented added back in.
I have sent links to beta testers to help weed out issues.
If you feel you were over looked as a tester please PM or email me and I'll send you a link.
This build has a lot of VR improvements added mostly for if you have a Kinects installed.
However there is still lots I can add to improve it even farther.
Although in testing PCC has yet failed to hear a command.
Over the last few days VR has been 100% ~:0~
Any thing I add from now on I won't notice any improvement in recognition. ??? ::)

I have seen them go for as low as $20 US + shipping  on E-bay
If you can find one locally you can save on the shipping most times. ;>

I found the best deals on kinects are at some of the used game shops.  they usually have a ton of them and they are relatively cheap.  I know the ones near me have had a huge increase since the Xbox one came out as the kinect is different for the new system.  If you have a game shop local I would start there

Version 4.0.4.6 was a bit of a challenge, the December Ice storm here didn't help. (CZB)
Waiting on tester input allowed me to add several new adds while trying to reprogram in lost data.
Microsoft Kinects Sensor code has been expanded adding extremely reliable VR using one.
Pulling info from the Kinects has been a lot of work.
However I'm beginning to see light at the end of the tunnel. ~:0~
Some of the things possible like face recognition are very demanding on PC resources.
I may not add these for a bit and when I do the option to use it or not will have to be added.

I was in Costco the other day and they had a professional weather station for under $90.
My wife seen me looking at it and drooling, she said get it if you want.
She didn't have to say that twice!  ~:0~

I guess now X10 WeatherWatch will get a upgrade.

I don't usually get much coding do through the summer months or even early fall, other then bug fixes.
With the in ability of users to move their ActiveHome Pro programs to new PC I took up playing with ways to register it on a new PC.
This took away from my time to add extras to PCC the next build for PCC :(
Most likely the next release will only include some minor bug repairs.
I did work on this through the summer on rainy days so their may be some small additions But I'll have to go threw my notes to see if there is anything worth mentioning.
X10WeatherWatch (PCC Plugin/add-on) has some updated code for users with a weather station allowing reads of a CSV file every 20 seconds is the big add.
As well as some error catching that that add required.
