Android MK808
« on: March 10, 2013, 06:30:09 pm »

I recently picked up a few of these(Android MK808) to run IPcam view PRO on so that I could see my security cams from any TV in the house.  Tonite I did a little testing and with this you can have TAC on your TV.  When talking about small footprint interfaces for home automation this is a really good option as well.  all of the functions of TAC work on this unit with the exception on the camera stuff and VR but it allows chat and x10 control right from your TV.

Check it out

T.A.C on a big screen TV how cool is that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had seen similar devices I think.
But had always wondered what one would use them for. ::) :`)
I'd love to see a video of it in action (hint)  (RoFL)
There never was a real clear description of what these could do for me I certainly never though it useful for HA.
However HA users always  amaze me with things they adapt into HA.

Hey T,

I'll get a video of it soon,  I just tried T.A.C as a experiment,  I originally got them for my ip cams so I could view them on the tv's but then thought it would be cool to try TAC on them.  Give me a few days to finish setting it up.  I need to get SD cards for them to save the TAC settings as of right now I have BLUE iris Trigger a PCC usercommand when it see motion at the front door,  the user command speaks a alert to let me know some one it there plus it turn the tv to the input for the device to show my IP cameras.

Very Cool!
I just purchased a similar device off eBay, Looks like if nothing else I'll be able to use it at the cottage to surf the net on the TV.
I may just make a special App for this once I've played with it a bit.
Nice find! :)!

Not sure if the model is the same as it appears that there are a few different ones out there but it is very similar.  An app for these would be very cool, TAC run on these but there are alot of settings and features that are not available on these.

I do like the talking face set and the security features on the TV.  AS well as the user commands and x10 sends, but the VR and camera functions wont work on these because they dont have the hardware.  This is where I could see a single screen app come in to play.

Yes I just noticed that.
The one you have has 4.1 Jellybean the one I ordered has 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
I may delay working on a Pocket TAC until I get this and have played with it a bit.
They say you can chat with them so that function should work too.

Mine it running 4.1 jellybean.

I think the chat will work, just not with VR.  If A user wanted vr I think they would need to connect a tablet of phone device to the TV so it could listen.  That is another option with some of the newer android phones and tablets.  I was playing with my tablet awhile back and I can connect it to the TV hdmi port and control it with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and still use VR but it displays on the TV.

The only down fall that I see for the chat it that the TV would have to be set to that input for the chat to work and not watching TV and have the chat step in when wanted.  Unless there was a way that POCKET TAC could send a user command and then pause like 4 seconds and then send the chat message.  That Would allow PCC time to switch the input with IR  :`)  just a thought  not like you don't have enough  going on already.   (RoFL)

I'm sure VR will work.
I thing for voice to work you'll need to install Google Voice Search that's what my x10 Airpad needed I believe.
You may also need a mic as I didn't see that in the specs but it did show a user with a head set on.
You could probably use a Bluetooth headset.
It will be a while before I get mine to do some actual tests.

I will have to try that with my bluetooth headset and see how it goes.  I'll post my results here.

VR is built into the android OS, Gingerbread had it not sure if older versions did but newer most certainly do.
This however will most likely take some extra configuration steps for this device.
I look forward to seeing your test results. :)!

Well T,

I have been playing around with TAC on my mini pc and can't get VR to work with it   (cB)  I should have done more research on them because the one that I ordered doesn't have bluetooth.  but I tried it with one of my friends devices and my motorolla S9 headset and it works amazing.   ~:0~

I guess I will need to look for a model that supports bluetooth  :`)

from what I've read on the forums for these devices you can get the VR to work.
I don't remember the forum I saw it on but it was for the older version then you have.
I think it is for the version I ordered.
Basically you need to install "Google voice search" I'm not sure about Bluetooth but you may wish to look into the forums on these things.
Users are doing things with them that they weren't intended to do.

If you do plan on going to something else look at the Gbox midnight, lots on Google but they go from $55- $120 + shipping.
Too much considering they are not the new model which sells for about $75 on amazon.
The new model is smaller and doesn't have everything contained inside it.

Yes.
If you go to the manufactures web site you'll see the new model which looks much like what you have.
I just can't remember the name of it off hand.
