Simplifying Alex10?
« on: March 11, 2017, 06:31:58 am »

Making Alex10 as simple to use and setup was and still is a priority.
The HA-Bridge seems to be where most users experience issues :(  which I have no control over. :(
I'm looking for suggestions from users on ways to make setup simpler.
If you have a suggestion to make the use simpler I'll look at those as well.
Although Alex10 was never meant to be anything more then Away to get Alexa control of your X10 devices It does have some extras which I'd be interested in simplifying as well.
The main UI was put in place to merely test x10 devices so I'll be simplifying that without losing any current functions in upcoming releases.
If you feel setup and or use is simple enough as it is now Please say so!

Setup is ok as is. I would suggest freezing the HA-bridge version for Alex10 and not upgrading to future bridge updates unless necessary for important new Alex10/Alexa functionality, i.e. for RM-Bridge support or similar. (Chr)

That is fine for the end user to not Update the bridge. This is why I added the option when updating from inside Alex10.
However the full installer will always include the latest bridge as Alex10 must remain compatible with the current build so that if something new gets added which Alex10 can benefit from I'm not at a loss when adding new code.
Thus was the case with the latest 4.2.1 version. it adds extra info to a device status call which was hard enough figuring out being only one version behind.
Had I waited it may have taken me much longer to figure out.
Also some users use the bridge with other HA devices and new ones are constantly added.
If an end user updates the Bridge and Alex10 isn't compatible with it their X10 setup will be rendered useless.
This should not affect initial setup, or at least I'll do my best not to let it. ??? ::) :`)
