2016-2017 developement
« on: December 16, 2016, 03:08:59 pm »

Many of you have experienced issues with the weather part of PCC if not using a PWS.
Depending on your settings it was causing PC not to perform as expected.
I had hoped to get to this earlier but got side tracked with Amazons Alexa and another solar project for my off grid place. :-[
Getting the weather working again is priority and hopefully it won't be a can of worms to wade threw. ???
My experiences with the Amazon Dot and Alexa lead me to believe this will be a good fit with PCC. Seeing how easy it is to get x10 working using HA-Bridge I'll enable PCC to use it Although it maybe possible now with out me having to add or change anything. ::) :`)

Sadly it is looking like both Yahoo and wunderground require a API key now.
Luckily both are free if you don't plan on going over the free request limit per day.
However I already have a wunderground key so I'll code for it.
This will mean anyone wishing to use the weather portion of PCC will require a API key.
This also is going to mean a major recode but should result in more reliable weather and Alerts.
Also while experimenting with my Amazon dot I believe I can enable Alexa to trip any usercommand ??? ::) :`) so I'll try to add that capability.
Since PCC is going to undergo a major rebuild I'd like to hear from those using it, what options they never use. There are a few things I no longer use but don't wish to remove them if they are still in use.
These are support for the va11a and va12 a for x10 cameras ( I've moved totally to Wi-Fi)
I'd like users to suggest in this post so others can comment.

It looks like a free API key (Developer) which currently only allows a call up to every 173 seconds
A $20 a month key (Drizzle) allows a call up to every 17 seconds.
I'll code for both.
Currently this is an example of the info I get back:
Current Conditions for Toronto are: Light Snow
Temperature is: 16.9 Degrees Fahrenheit (-8.4  Degrees Celsius)
Dew Point: 6 Degrees Fahrenheit (-14  Degrees Celsius)
        Heat Index : NA
        Visibility: 9.0 Miles
Wind: From the WNW at 8.0 Miles per Hour Gusting to 19.0 Miles per Hour
Wind Chill: 6 Degrees Fahrenheit (-14  Degrees Celsius)
Total Precipitation Today: 0.07 in (2 mm)
        Relative Humidity: 63%
        Pressure: 1027 and rising
If there is an Alert I get that as well.
It is possible to get a 3 day forecast  included which I could save as a xml file if anyone wishes this.

I've been able to get the hi low temperatures to again display in the main UI.
So it now displays the same info ~:0~ actually I've even added to it!
Below the temperature value I added a Feels like value which is calculated from the heat index and or wind chill.
Since I'm now able to pull all previous info Plus, the work to use it again starts (CZB)

I believe I have most of the bugs worked out.
This new pull allows a few more values to be added to the csv file PCC creates
It now will display (if available from Wunderground) the heat index and UV values in addition to what was available. ;>
If your currently running 4.0.5.9 (or newer) then you should be able to download the beta.
From the media center type in >*Beta Tester*<  be sure the Play TTS is selected and press play.
If that doesn't work for you let me know and I'll send the link.

A new beta version is available for download.
this fixes issues I discovered with weather and alerts in the last beta
I'm now updating the manuals to reflect changes that occurred with the new Wunderground pulls

Since it is looking like this PCC build maybe ready for release.
I decided to update the BatchFile Creator to create PCC batch files to be used in HA-Bridge.
This will be included in the next Plugin pack update.
If any one wishes to help work out the bugs with this let me know and I'll get you a copy. ;>

With no feed back on PCC I've decided to end the PCC 4 builds.
I've started coding PCC 5.
The route PCC Five goes depends on feed Back.
Since Alexa will get added a lot of the code will be required to be changed in order to have Alexa control specific aspects of PCC.
Some things available in PCC 4 will get dropped like support for the old X10 non IP cameras.
Going forward only Wi-Fi cameras will be supported.
The VCR commander support will be dropped (newer electronics make support codes obsolete)
Some obsolete plugins will also get dropped

The layout is open for discussion but this will change some what.
Remember Feed back is the key here to what stays, gets cut or added. ;>
